St. Peters is a city in St. Charles County, MO. Founded by French traders in the late 18th Century, it grew into a prosperous farming community as a result of German immigrants from 1830 to 1850. However, throughout most of the twentieth century, it stayed a small farming town. Even as recently as 1970, it had a population of only 486. Then by 1980 the population rapidly increased to 15,700. Within the span of a decade, the community changed from a small rural town to a more suburban community.
Today, St. Peters has been recognized by Money Magazine twice as one of the Top 100 Best Places to Live in America. The St. Peters Rec-Plex, a 236,000 square foot family recreation and athletic training complex, sits next to St. Peters City Hall. The Rec-Plex hosted the 2004 Olympic Diving Trials, and is recognized as one of the USA’s premiere diving facilities.
